The production lines that were already operational in the Volvo Cars factory proved to not be strong enough to produce the new, heavier electric vehicles. The lines required adaptations and renovation.
Approach
The new production lines were integrated on the active production lines where people work on the vehicles. At every station, there’s a central lift table that is height-adjustable in order for the employees to work ergonomically during their operations.
The operating principle and the system remained the same; however, everything was renewed with regard to software, drive system and control system. Our experts engineered the entire system from scratch.
We renewed the drive systems of the line, the corner lift tables and all motors. Not only did we reinforce the motors, we also switched them to more energy-efficient models. With that, they are now compliant with the latest standards.
Result
The new production lines allow employees to work on the heavier, electric vehicles as well; and in an ergonomically-efficient way thanks to the lift tables being adjustable in height. Moreover, our PLC software has the pallets that are pushing the line bump into each other softly, to warrant optimal functioning.
