Transport CLF 4150 at Volvo Cars

Topic

Due to the higher weight of electric vehicles, we had to replace a conveyor installation at Volvo Cars that would be able to carry the weight of those new vehicles.

Approach

The system that needed to be renewed is a vehicle transportation system. It’s a conveyor installation that runs without human intervention. The car is delivered in a carrier and taken out of the carrier by a skid. The empty carrier moves along while the skid transports the car to the rotary turntable.

Before, the lift table was controlled hydraulically, which means that it was powered by liquid under high pressure. The new lift table has an electrically powered motor. The turntable and lift were both reinforced to allow them to carry the weight of the electric vehicles.

Result

The electric motor of the lift tables, the reinforced turntable and lift allow electric vehicles to be transported easily throughout the production process. Thanks to this upgrade, we managed to increase the availability of the installation to 99.9%, and the MCBF to 25,000.
